WELCOME - I'M GLAD YOU'RE HERE!!!
I am so pleased to be able to teach Advanced Placement English Language and Composition at Golden Valley High School. I bring 31 years of teaching experience to my work and despite (or perhaps because of) my lengthy tenure, I am still excited and energized by the curriculum I develop and the young people with whom I interact.
My undergraduate work in English focused heavily on American and World Literature, excellent preparation for teaching junior and freshman English. During my college years, I also participated in competitive speech or Forensics (NOT to be confused with crime scene investigation) in which I won numerous local, state, and national awards. I believe this experience helped me to become an effective and clear communicator, giving me a firm foundation for my classroom work. As a graduate student I coached the oral interpretation of literature and readers' theater in the Speech Communication Department at San Francisco State University.
I have been happily married to Michael Boykin, physics teacher at Golden Valley, for 35 years and we have one son. I am passionately interested in U.S. and world politics and I love spending time outdoors, especially hiking in the Sierras or along the beautiful California coast. My hobbies include writing screenplays and pursuing work in the voice over industry.
I am most joyful when I witness the growth, development, and success of my students and when I spend time with my immediate and extended family.
